At least four people died and nine others injured in an avalanche southwest of Mont Blanc in the French Alps.
According to preliminary reports, several other people were injured in the accident, French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said.
Darmanin indicated that rescue operations are still underway, as about 20 rescue personnel, gendarmes, firefighters, and doctors went to the site of the avalanche.
Those caught up in it were backcountry skiing in the mountains, said spokesperson for the local authorities of Haute-Savoie Emmanuel Coquand, adding that they were still confirming the identity of the victims.
