The Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has allocated 111 mosques in various regions across Qatar for I’tikaf (staying in mosque) during the last 10 days of Ramadan. I'tikaf is an Islamic practice about secluding oneself in a mosque during the last 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan, devoting oneself to the worship of Allah and staying away from worldly affairs.
Awqaf has urged those wishing to perform I'tikaf to learn the jurisprudence of I'tikaf in line with the Noble Prophet's guidance, and to perform it in the specified mosques.
According to the Awqaf directives, the person in retreat should not be less than 18 years. The guardian should accompany if the age of the person in I’tikaf is less than 18.
Awqaf stressed the importance of personal hygiene and the cleanliness of the place of worship while preserving the property of the mosque as it is endowed to all Muslims. Also, the ministry urged not to disturb the worshippers with side conversations and cause them inconvenience inside the mosque.
I’tikaf performers are also urged not to hang clothes on the walls or other mosque furniture and not to sleep or eat in undesignated places. And, according to the directives, women aren’t allowed for I’tikaf.
