The Zakat Affairs Department at the Ministry of Endowment (Awqaf) and Islamic Affairs has set the amount of Zakat al-Fitr for the month of Ramadan 1444 AH as 2.5kg of rice, which is a staple of most of the people (equivalent to QR15). It must be paid before the Eid al-Fitr prayer.
The department has urged the public to pay Zakat Al Fitr for themselves and their dependents on time, whether male or female, minor or adult.
Director of the Zakat Affairs Department Saad Omran al-Kuwari said that the department determines the value of Zakat al-Fitr after it studies the prices of rice and calculates the average price.
He said that the basic principle of Zakat al-Fitr is to give it out from most of the people's food, which is rice, and the amount is 2.5kg, with the possibility of paying QR15 in cash.
Al-Kuwari urged the public to pay the Zakat al-Fitr to the Zakat Affairs Department, the official government agency concerned with collecting Zakat in Qatar, so the department delivers it to the actual beneficiaries inside Qatar before the Eid al-Fitr prayer.
He said Zakat al-Fitr amount could be paid through the offices of the department across the country, or through its website.
