The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has urged restaurants and hotels to install and maintain grease trap in kitchens to maintain the drainage network.
This is in order to preserve the drainage network and to ensure its sustainability, Ashghal said in a tweet that also includes a set of guidelines for restaurants and houses.
The advisory asks restaurant owners to prevent sewer blockages and flooding by disposing Fats, Oils and Grease (FOG) properly.
“Don’t pour FOG down the sink. Ensure you have a grease trap installed in your kitchen. Ensure your grease trap is properly maintained and cleaned regularly,” the advisory says. “Dispose FOG via tankers permitted by Ashghal and ensure your staff know how to correctly dispose of FOG.”
Ashghal has also urged the public to not throw the waste in the sewage.
“Co-operate with us to preserve our country’s assets,” Ashghal tweeted.
