Qatar Charity (QC) has launched a campaign named ‘50,000 Lives’ to provide treatment to 50,000 eye patients and children with cleft lips worldwide.
The QR17mn drive comes under Qatar Charity’s ‘Ramadan: Leave Your Mark’ campaign and will continue until April 6.
The campaign will focus on the implementation of medical camps to conduct medical examinations, cataract surgeries and operations for children with cleft lips, and provide necessary medicines and treatments for them, a press statement notes.
Qatar Charity has urged benefactors in Qatar to take the opportunity of the holy month to multiply their rewards by supporting the campaign to save lives and alleviate the suffering of poor patients, especially in deprived areas. The support is needed to reach the targeted number of beneficiaries during the current week.
Benefactors can easily donate to the campaign through QC's website, branches and collection points located in malls and commercial centres.
One child in every 1,000 children has a cleft lip, one of the most common birth defects in the world. These children face a 15-fold increase in mortality compared to infant deaths due to various causes.
The launch of the ‘50,000 Lives’ campaign coincides with the visit of a delegation from Qatar Charity to Ghana, which includes many officials of QC, volunteers, donors and influencers.
During the visit, the delegation will learn about Qatar Charity's projects in several regions of Ghana, inaugurate numerous health projects, and launch campaigns for
cataract surgery and cleft lip treatment, in addition to distributing food packages, participating in in ‘Feed the Fasting’ projects, distributing economic empowerment projects, and visiting the families of orphans sponsored by QC within the framework of its Rofaqa initiative.
