Al Duhail head coach Hernan Crespo is aiming for a clean sweep of domestic titles this season after the Red Knights won the Ooredoo Cup on Tuesday night. At the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium, South Korean star Nam Tae-hee’s goal in the 37th minute was enough for Duhail to seal their maiden Ooredoo Cup title with a 1-0 win over Umm Salal. But Crespo is not content with one silverware as his side aims for three more trophies in the next two months.
Duhail lead the QNB Stars League by two points over second-placed Al Arabi and also have a game in hand.
They are also in the final of the Qatar Cup, where they will play arch rivals Al Sadd on April 6.
On April 10, Duhail take on Al Sailiya in the Amir Cup quarter-finals, with the defending champions keen to retain the prestigious title.
“I am happy with this win and our first title. I am also proud of my players’ performance. This triumph reflects the team spirit and collective play. We started the Ooredoo Cup campaign with our young players due to the absence of senior players, who were away on national duty. After their return, we continued to work hard to win this title,” Crespo after winning the Ooredoo Cup. “Though we have our first title of the season, there are still more titles to compete for... such as the QNB Stars League, Qatar Cup and Amir Cup. We will fight with all our strength to win those titles,” the Argentine added.
Meanwhile, Duhail defender Bassam al-Rawi said had to get past a stubborn Umm Salal in the final.
“It was a very tough game against a strong opponent, who also performed well during the game. But our desire and determination took us over the line,” he said.
“The coach spoke to us prior to the game, saying that there are 11 matches ahead of us, which are equal to four titles. We have succeeded today in the very first match and won our first title of the season. There are still 10 more to go and three titles to win. We will definitely work hard to win them all,” al-Rawi added.
