Local authorities and beneficiaries praised Qatar Charity’s (QC) ‘Feed the Fasting’ project, being implemented as part of its ‘Ramadan: Leave Your Mark’ campaign in 40 countries.
The project includes food packages, ready-to-eat meals, and Iftar tables.
In Tunisia, QC has organised Iftar tables, since the start of the holy month of Ramadan, for underprivileged families, orphans, disabled, and widows, in co-ordination with local authorities, in the capital Tunis, as well as in the governorates of Ariana, Manouba, Béja, Nabeul, and Kairouan.
In Manouba, the launch of the project was attended by Governor Mohamed Cheikhrouhou and more than 900 Iftar meals were distributed. He appreciated the role of QC’s office in supporting the efforts of Tunisian government agencies within the framework of social work for the month of Ramadan.
More than 30,000 people are expected to benefit from the ‘Feed the Fasting’ project during Ramadan in Tunisia.
In Somalia, QC launched the ‘Feed the Fasting’ project in the presence of Qatar’s ambassador Dr Abdullah bin Salem al-Nuaimi and many officials from Somalia’s Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs.
The project aims to benefit 4,900 families (six individuals per family), especially families of orphans, people with special needs, poor families, and those sponsored by QC in Banadir, Somalia. They are given food packages sufficient for Ramadan.
Speaking at the project launch, Hassan Abdulrahman Ahmed, spokesman for the Ministry of Endowments, praised QC’s humanitarian role in supporting the needy in Somalia. He said that such projects mean a lot to the needy families suffering from the high cost of the basic items.
In Ghana, QC, through its office in the country, has started, since the first day of Ramadan, distributing ready-to-eat Iftar meals to more than 50 villages and residential areas. The beneficiary families appreciated the support from the benefactors from Qatar.
Engineer Hassan Odeh, director of the office, said that 50,000 meals will be distributed to Accra and Northern Regions. QC has also allocated Iftars for Muslim students at the University of Ghana.
