In collaboration with Al Wakrah Municipality, Al Shafallah Centre for Persons with Disability, Lycee Voltaire, Lycee Bonaparte and Doha Accueil — the Francophone network, and powered by Monoprix, the French embassy recently carried out a cleanup drive at Al Wakra Beach.
More than 70 volunteers took part in the initiative.
This event was organised as part of the efforts of the French embassy to raise awareness on the importance of environmental protection.
Jean-Baptiste Faivre, French ambassador to Doha, and his wife Zakia Faivre led the participants during the cleanup operation at Al Wakra Beach.
The ambassador thanked all the participants, noting: "The protection of the environment is a top priority for France and needs to be supported by concrete actions and awareness-raising operations, in order to spread the message of the importance of taking care of our planet."
He added: "The French embassy is very happy to partner on this operation with Shafallah Centre, which is doing a tremendous job in the field of education for children with special needs. We also wanted, through this operation, to make their work better known by the wider audience.
"I would like to particularly thank on this occasion the director of Al Wakrah Municipality, Mohamed Hassan al-Nuaimi, and their team for their continuous efforts and long-term collaboration with the French embassy. We value the strategic partnership launched between us on environmental sustainability. Several events involving the community took place since 2016 and we are looking forward to develop this co-operation further."
The beach cleanup initiative was preceded by a visit to the sustainable marine promenade for people with special needs and the elderly, which was inaugurated in 2022 by Al Wakrah Municipality to provide easy access to the beach for persons with reduced mobility.
