As a tribute to Qatar’s phenomenal success in organising the FIFA World Cup 2022, the World Malayalee Council Qatar Province (WMC Qatar) conducted a “Shootout Fiesta” for its members recently at Al Jazeera Academy.
Each contestant had three chances to try their luck at shooting penalty goals. There were four categories - men, women, juniors and sub juniors. More than 50 members tried their luck at the contest.
WMC vice chairman for Sports, Jeby K John kicked off the first penalty to inaugurate the event.
The champions: Shamsudeen Ismail (Men), Shahana Abdulkhader (Women), Mishal Kizhakeetil (Juniors) and Madhav Sharatchandran (Sub-Juniors). Second place went to Muhammad Shihab (Men), Rehna (Women), Ala Abdul Karim (Juniors), Minha Butto (Sub Juniors). Third place winners were Deepak C G (Men), Soumya (Women), Elaan Shameer (Juniors), and Nutan Shanavas (Sub Juniors).
The winners were awarded prizes by Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) president A P Manikantan, Indian Community Benevolent Forum (ICBF) president Shanavas Bava, Indian Sports Centre president E P Abdurehman, ICC managing committee member Abraham Joseph, ICBF managing committee member Abdul Rouf Kondotty and Guinness World Record holder running champion Shakeer Cheeerayi.
WMC officials including chairman V S Narayanan, president Suresh Kariyad, general secretary Kajal Moosa, vice chairman (projects) D P Pillai, vice chairman (sports) Jeby K John, vice president (administration) Varghese Varghese, vice president (membership), Sam Kuruvilla, advisory board member Ziad Usman, WMC Youth Forum president BM Fasil, secretary Vipin Puthur and WMC Women’s Forum secretary Simi Shameer were present.
Winners of the FIFA 2022 World Cup Match Winners’ Prediction Contest conducted earlier by the WMC Qatar Youth Forum, were also felicitated at the event.
WMC Women's Forum vice president Prema was the compere. This was the first in-person event by WMC Qatar after its inception in 2021.
