Qatar Mobility Innovations Centre (Qmic) has launched its first Innovations Showcase, demonstrating how its home-grown digital platforms and solutions are serving national strategies and mega projects.
In line with the country’s strategy to create a comprehensive knowledge-based economy, Qmic is positioning this showcase as an opportunity to connect with many national stakeholders and strategic partners in order to discuss areas of synergy and mutual benefits. The Innovations Showcase is being held at Qmic’s offices in the Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), and was inaugurated by HE Mohammed bin Ali bin Mohammed al-Mannai, Minister of Communications and Information Technology during his visit to Qmic on March 14 and in the presence of Qmic’s chairman Abdulla Zaid al-Talib and other executives from Qmic and QSTP.
As one of the first innovation centres in the region, Qmic has developed and launched several large-scale digital platforms since its inception in 2009. Many of these solutions contributed directly to numerous mega projects in Qatar such as the construction of the Qatar Rail network, supporting Qatar’s Intelligent Transport and Road Safety strategies, 2021 FIFA Arab Cup, and the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Additionally, Qmic’s solutions were adopted by many key national stakeholders, large enterprises, and SMEs to help in enhancing and automating their operations, deliver new services, or achieving strategic targets. These decade-long achievements were reflected in this innovations showcase, highlighting the real impact of locally developed smart solutions and services.
The showcase focused on presenting Qmic’s solutions and application in six keys domains: Transport and Infrastructure, Road Safety, Events and Tourism, Smart Spaces, Environment and Energy, and Defence and Security. Each domain was shown under a dedicated station which included a quick overview of Qmic’s deployed solutions and ones which are in a pilot-ready stage, as well as a live demonstration of the solutions. This allowed visitors to spend more time on the domains that interest them, while getting a quick snapshot of Qmic’s applications in other domains.
Dr Adnan Abu-Dayya, Qmic’s executive director (CEO), commented “Our innovations showcase delivers a comprehensive and user-centric view about the many smart systems and applications Qmic has developed in the last few years. Inviting national stakeholders and potential partners to experience our live systems can undoubtedly demonstrate the progress made in Qatar to translate R&D into market-ready solutions and services. This will also set the stage for forging new partnership to fully benefit from our home-grown platforms and solutions especially in the areas of Intelligent Mobility and Smart Cities.”
Omar Mohammed al-Jaber, director, Strategic Partnerships and Outreach at Qmic said, “Qmic will continue to host the live Innovation Showcase for few weeks in order to give the chance for many stakeholders to experience first-hand Qmic’s existing platforms and learn about our innovation development strategies in support of key market sectors and future mega events in Qatar.”
