Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) yesterday signed an agreement with Nasser al-Attiyah, announcing the world-level Qatari rally driver and Skeet shooter as a humanitarian ambassador.
Pursuing the common goals of sports and humanitarian action, this partnership is aimed at advocating major social and humanitarian causes; promoting humanitarianism, community service, and volunteerism; and mobilising support for QRCS’s humanitarian activities both locally and internationally.
Among his numerous championships, al-Attiyah is a five-time winner of the Dakar Rally, and he won a bronze medal for skeet shooting in the London 2012 Olympics. With his exceptional motivation and inspiring personality, he has become an icon of Qatari sports and a role model for youth.
“It is my honour to be a QRCS humanitarian ambassador, supporting its humanitarian operations in Qatar and all over the world,” said al-Attiyah. “As athletes, it is our duty to stand hand-in-hand with you, offering as much as we can for nothing in return. It is a message that we would like to convey to the public. Everyone would wish to be part of your team, helping people in emergencies”.
Faisal Mohamed al-Emadi, acting secretary-general of QRCS, commented: “Welcome Nasser al-Attiyah as a new member of the QRCS family. When we contacted you on a short notice, you did not hesitate to accept our request. Thank you! You are expected to actively contribute to QRCS’s 45-year humanitarian legacy as a leading organisation that is part of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Let’s embrace the slogan ‘Humanity First’”.
