The 2023 Qatar Kite Festival began on Thursday at MIA Park.
The three-day event features a dazzling array of uniquely patterned kites, by teams from France, India, Indonesia, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkiye, the UK and the US.
The event with Qatar Museums (QM) as the venue partner will include activities for children, such as an inflatables games area (adjacent to the entrance of the MIA), and two kite-building workshops located in front of Al Riwaq gallery and on the alley of Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) park hills.
The 2023 Qatar Kite Festival is an initiative of Safe Flight Solutions, the organiser of the Qatar Balloon Festival Series, and asfary.com, a statement explained.
The workshops will be led by seasoned kite-flying professional Iqbal Husain, who at age five learnt how to build Pakistani fighter kites, and now crafts traditional kites made from bamboo and recycled Japanese washi paper.
Children of all ages will learn how to use eco-friendly paper and biodegradable materials to draw, build, and paint their own kites, and once finished, will watch them be flown by professionals.
The timings are 2pm-9pm today and 11am to 9pm tomorrow, the statement added.
