Walking Football Federation Qatar (WFFQ) organised the first ever Ghanaian Independence Day Walking Football Cup 2023 at Al Jazeera Academy football field, bringing together teams from various expatriate communities. The event, under the patronage of WFFQ Asia and Qatar president Farhan al-Sayed and Ghanaian ambassador Mohamed Nurudeen Ismaila, witnessed the Uganda Walking Football Club team beating Sri Lankan team, 3 – 1 while the third place went to Kenya who beat Ghana 2 – 1. Douglas Mayanga (Uganda) was the player of the tournament, Sri Lankan Mohamed Taqi won the best goalkeeper award and Nigerian Andrew Chukwudi received the fair play medal. The prize ceremony was joined by LuLu Group regional operations manager Simon Alexander.
