Strong explosions rocked several areas in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, on Thursday morning, after sirens were sounded throughout Ukraine, amid a state of alert.
Ukrainian news outlets reported that explosions were heard in various parts of Kyiv, after air warning sirens were sounded in the Ukrainian capital.
According to Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko, Russia struck the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv, adding that there were explosions in the Holosiivskyi district.
Russia launched a wave of missiles at Ukrainian targets in Kharkiv to the north and Odesa and Zhytomyr to the west. This caused damage to residential buildings and infrastructure in Kharkiv and Odesa, and power outages in several regions.
The Ukrainian army stated that it had repulsed the intensive Russian attacks on the besieged eastern city of Bakhmut, although the Russian forces claimed that they had taken control of the eastern half of it.
Moscow has been trying to control Bakhmut for months, as both sides suffered heavy losses in a fierce war of attrition.
Furthermore, the Russian military operation inside Ukrainian territory has been going on for more than a year, without Moscow achieving the goals it set from the beginning, and without Kyiv surrendering to the large Russian equipment deployed on its territory.
