A delegation from Qatar Charity (QC), headed by CEO Yousuf bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, laid the foundation stone for the reconstruction of the Al-Hamra Health Centre in Mafraq governorate and Khalid Ibn Al-Walid Mosque in Karak governorate, Jordan. The foundation stone-laying ceremony was attended by Jordanian Minister of Health Dr Firas al-Hawari, Qatar's ambassador to Jordan Sheikh Saud bin Nasser bin
Jassim al-Thani and Dr Abdullah al-Aqeel, secretary-general of the Ministry of Awqaf, Islamic Affairs and Holy Places, Jordan.
Sheikh Saud expressed happiness with the Al-Hamra Health Centre project at the foundation stone-laying ceremony. He noted that QC plays a key role in addressing humanitarian challenges and helping achieve the Sustainable Development Goals in light of the challenges the world is witnessing, most notably the influx of refugees into Jordan and other countries due to the Syrian crisis. He noted that projects worth 25mn Jordanian dinars that Qatar Charity implements include aid, shelter, food, health, education and social projects, in addition to sponsoring 6,500 people.
For his part, Dr al-Hawari said the project confirms the depth of relations between the two countries, Jordan and Qatar, and the keenness of Qatar to contribute to supporting the efforts of the Jordanian Ministry of Health in developing the infrastructure of its health centres, thus contributing to improving the quality of primary healthcare services provided in various governorates of Jordan. He thanked QC for providing this generous grant that made this project possible. He pointed out that this project is a glimmer of hope for co-operation between the Jordanian Ministry of Health and Qatar Charity, emphasising the importance of the project as it is one of the important health centres in Mafraq governorate, which provides health and maternity/childhood services to more than 15,000 citizens and over 5,000 Syrian refugees.
Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Khalid bin Al-Waleed Mosque in Karak governorate, al-Kuwari said the mosque plays a fundamental and essential role in promoting the values and principles that are based on the humanisation of civilisation and the call for the advancement of societies. He noted that Qatar Charity hopes to implement its interventions, under the current year's plan, with a value of 13mn Jordanian dinars.
Dr Abdullah Abu Nawas, head of the Mosque Committee, praised QC's initiative and its response to the reconstruction of this mosque, which serves a large area. He added that it is one of the old mosques in the area, underling the importance of its reconstruction due to the need of the population for a mosque in the area. The 1,870sqm Khaled bin Al-Walid Mosque will include a main prayer area for nearly 500 worshippers and a women's prayer area for approximately 150 worshipers, in addition to an ablution area and a house for the Imam.
