The training course for teaching sign language (level two) began Sunday at the Officers Club of the General Directorate of Civil Defence.
Organised by the Office of People with Special Needs Affairs in the Ministry of Interior’s Human Resources Department, the course aims at qualifying a number of the ministry's military and civilian employees working in service and field jobs on sign language skills, to enhance communication mechanisms with people with special needs and meet their needs.
Lieutenant-Colonel Nasser Abdullah, the technical office officer at the Human Resources Department and in-charge of the Office of People with Special Needs, said that the course comes as a continuation of the implementation of the Office’s annual plan, and to achieve the ministry’s goal of developing the skills and capabilities of the personnel, and strengthening the partnership with society and institutions concerned with people with special needs.
He said that the training session will be attended by 22 participants from among the ministry's employees who have successfully passed the first level.
Lieutenant-Colonel Abdullah added that next week a number of female employees of the ministry will participate in the training.
