Shura Council Speaker HE Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanem held Saturday meetings with a number of parliamentarians participating in the Parliamentary Forum on Least Developed Countries (LDCs), held by the Shura council on the sidelines of the 5th UN Conference on Least Developed Countries (LDC5). HE al-Ghanem met with President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Duarte Pacheco, Speaker of the National Assembly of Niger Seyni Oumarou and Speaker of the National Assembly of Zambia Nelly Kashumba Mutti. During the meetings, the participants praised Qatar's efforts in supporting the least developed countries, and in this context valued the Doha Work Programme for the Least Developed Countries for the Decade 2022-2031, under the title 'Challenges and Opportunities Related to Human Rights'. They also praised Qatar's efforts in supporting the goals of sustainable development, supporting development efforts in different parts of the world, and its efforts in peace operations in hotbeds of conflict. They noted the importance of the forum for making recommendations to the conference with the aim of supporting the least developed countries, and strengthening efforts to remove them from this classification, expressing their thanks to the Shura Council for organising the important parliamentary event. During the meetings, a number of issues related to the role of parliamentarians in supporting development efforts, in particular the least developed countries, were also discussed, as well as a number of topics that were discussed in the forum. A number of members of the Shura Council attended the meetings.
