The Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has launched a new electronic platform to provide water quality reports for district cooling plants.
The platform, according to an official press statement, is available in the district cooling services management section on the Kahramaa website. It enables the owners and operators of cooling plants to submit water quality reports electronically, easily and quickly, to ensure the highest levels of quality and safety at all stations.
Jamal al-Derbesti, director of the District Cooling Services Department at Kahramaa, said the new service comes within the framework of the corporation's general direction to automate all its provided services. “It aims to improve the approved processes and systems and align the target operating model with Kahramaa's policies. This is as part of a well-studied strategy that works to build on efforts while preserving and protecting the environment in the field of water security in Qatar,” he said.
"The department was keen to launch this service in an effort to enhance environmental health and safety levels for district cooling plants and to encourage the effective use of water resources. This step meets the requirements of the District Cooling Code and instructions on designing district cooling and managing used water that requires station operators to submit water quality reports every three months,” he explained.
Kahramaa said the new platform simplifies the reporting process while making it easier for the owners and operators of cooling plants to comply with Kahramaa's district cooling regulations. This system also allows them to submit the required reports efficiently and quickly.
The approved system provides advanced tools for data analysis, which will help Kahramaa engineers identify common patterns of use and identify potential challenges related to water quality for effective and rapid planning, so that these can be confronted and dealt with effectively.
The required periodic monitoring and inspection operations aim to prevent the accumulation and formation of organic materials in the various water circuits in these systems. This is in order to ensure the highest levels of health and safety in their use and to reduce the negative environmental impacts to ensure the sustainability of services.
Kahramaa is looking to start receiving reports via the platform from the first quarter of 2023. Kahramaa is working to encourage all developers and investors to adopt the district cooling system in their projects, which is the most efficient system with reduction in electricity consumption while using treated water.
