The Court of Appeal has reduced the death sentence against a man convicted of murdering his wife to 15 years in jail, local Arabic daily 'Arrayah' reported.
The case goes back to the time when the convict shot his wife in the head while she was trying to take a taxi in the street due to some disputes between them. The shot caused her some serious head injuries, which eventually caused her death.
The criminal court first sentenced him to death by firing squad and ordered to pay a sum of QR260,000 to the legal heirs of the deceased as the due legitimate blood money. However, the accused appealed the sentence through a lawyer and further investigations showed that he used to receive psychiatric treatment for years before the murder as he suffered from chronic anxiety. His doctor testified in the court that this was true but the accused was completely responsible for his actions at the time he committed his crime. But, the court found out that the accused has a minor son from the murdered wife and the boy cannot decide whether he desires capital punishment for the killer, the daily added.
