Top seeds and title favourites Alejandro Galan and Juan Lebron yesterday stormed into the quarter-finals of the Ooredoo Qatar Major 2023 with a convincing win over M Yanguas and A Arroyo.
Galan and Lebron, the padel giants from last season, won the all-Spanish clash 6-2, 7-5 in 2 hours and 29 minutes on the centre court at Khalifa Tennis and Squash Complex.
Second seeds Franco Stupaczuk and Martin Di Nenno, both from Argentina proved too strong for Enrique Goenaga and Jairo Bautista. Stupaczuk and Di Nenno won 6-0, 6-3 in just 45 minutes of play. Fifth seeds Arturo Coello of Spain and Argentina’s Agustin Tapia beat seeds Ramiro Moyano (Argentina) and Francisco Manuel Gil (Spain) in straight sets. Coello and Tapia won 6-2, 6-3 in 66 minutes.
In a shock result, third seeds Paquito Navarro and Juan Tello were sent packing by Lucas Campagnolo and Maxi Sánchez won 6-3, 7-5 in 1 hour and 39 minutes. The €525,000 tournament ends on Sunday.
