The Alumni Association at the Doha Institute (DI) has announced the formation of the first board of directors, along with the launch of the charter and by-laws The association has 1,040 members, who are the DI’s graduates until now. The Alumni Affairs Office selected five members from DI Alumni by acclamation to take the responsibility of leading the association in the first session, which will last for two consecutive years, as per the association charter.
The association’s first board of directors: Dr. Essa al-Hor (graduate of the Executive Master’s Programme in Public Administration), as chairman, and supported by board members: Mohammed al-Kaabi (graduate of the Clinical Psychology Programme), Najla al-Jabir (graduate of the Public Policy Programme), Shada Salhab (graduate of the Media and Cultural Studies Programme) and Zakaria El-Hagar (graduate of the History programme).
On this occasion, Dr Ibrahim Fraihat, dean of Student Affairs at the DI, stated that the announcement of the first board of directors of the Alumni Association comes in the context of the institute’s keenness to build a strong and close relationship with its graduates. He indicated that the establishment of the association comes within the vision of the DI in following up with the graduates, monitoring their achievements and successes that they achieved after graduation in various academic and practical fields.
Nada Almisshal, the alumni affairs officer, explained that the association is a platform for effective and fruitful communication between graduates, students, and the institute community in general. She added that the tasks entrusted to the Board of Directors of the Association are summarised in representing the graduates at the DI, and in alumni councils and forums in other universities, as well as organising activities and events for the Alumni to enhance communication, in addition to a number of other tasks and responsibilities.
Dr al-Hor expressed his pride in the DI's initiative to establish a special office for alumni affairs and stated: "We are working towards building a relationship between the Institute and its graduates on the one hand, and between the graduates and their colleagues on the other hand, in a relationship where knowledge and experience are integrated under the umbrella of the Alumni Association, which enhances the sustainability of knowledge," indicating that the Board of Directors of the Association will work to implement a promising plan to serve the Association.
Najla al-Jabir, emphasised that the impact of the Association goes beyond the walls of the DI, adding that the benefits are not limited to its members but are extended further to the academic institution itself, the field of work, as well as the institutional system.
Six cohorts have graduated from the DI since its establishment in 2015. The graduates, from the Social Sciences and Humanities faculty and the School of Economics, Administration and Public Policy faculty, are distributed inside and outside Qatar in more than 40 countries.
