HE the Deputy Speaker of the Shura Council Dr Hamda bint Hassan al-Sulaiti has stressed the importance of intensifying parliamentary efforts to expose the illegal practices of the Israeli occupation, increase effective solidarity with the brotherly Palestinian people, and provide all possible assistance to them to overcome their all the difficulties they face.
Speaking at the 17th Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean, currently taking place in Rabat, she condemned the Israeli occupation's operations against innocent Palestinians, pointing out that these measures contradict all international laws and conventions, particularly those related to the protection of civilians under occupation.
She stressed that all measures taken by Israel to settle or change the demographic components of Al-Quds, and the rest of the occupied territories, are illegal according to international legitimacy, principles of international law, and human rights. She highlighted to the ambitious goals of the Mediterranean Parliament, stressing that these goals, if achieved, will contribute to strengthening international peace and security, easing tensions in areas of conflict around the world, establish sustainable development, and eliminate poverty, deprivation, underdevelopment and terrorism.
She pointed out that, to achieve these goals, the basic rights of individuals and peoples must be respected, foremost of which are the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, who continue their heroic struggle to confront the occupation and its crimes, and struggle to obtain their national rights and self-determination, and to establish their independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, according to the Arab peace plan.
In another context, she called on the Mediterranean Parliament to show solidarity and provide material and moral support to the brothers in Syria and Turkey, in the face of the great humanitarian catastrophe that befell them, indicating that Qatar, under the directives of its leadership, took the initiative to carry out its national and humanitarian duty, and stand with the two brotherly peoples to alleviate the horror of the injured and provide the support required to overcome the impact from the natural disaster.
HE the Deputy Speaker called on the members of the Mediterranean Parliament to study all kinds of support that can be provided to the brothers in Syria and Turkey to help them and alleviate their pain. She also touched on the interest Qatar attaches to combating the crime of human trafficking, which was embodied in setting up a legal and institutional framework, and supporting all national, regional and international endeavors to combat the crime of human trafficking and other related phenomena.
She reviewed Qatar's efforts and initiatives in this regard, stressing that it will always strive to combat this crime at all levels, due to the negative effects that this crime has on local, regional and international communities. HE al-Sulaiti expressed her hope that the session will achieve its desired goals, and help bring views closer and exchange ideas for the benefit of the people.
