The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change said that its rescue teams spotted at the Purple Island an endangered flamingo, injured from a gunshot. The bird was given the necessary treatment.
The ministry stressed that shooting such endangered birds is punishable by Law No 4 for 2002 on the regulation of the Hunting of Wild Animals including mammals, birds and reptiles, which stipulates a penalty of a maximum one year jail and a fine up to QR10,000 or either. The penalty shall be doubled in case of committing the offence again. Flamingos are winter visitors in Qatar.
