Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Representative in Lebanon, Nora Ourabah Haddad announced that 2 million people are facing some form of food insecurity.
Lebanon's Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) shows that 2 million people in Lebanon, of them 1.29 million Lebanese residents and the others 700,000 Syrian refugees, are currently facing food insecurity.
The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the World Food Program, and the Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture, launched an analysis expecting the situation to deteriorate in the coming months.
Haddad indicated that the food insecurity situation is worrying, explaining that the economic crisis, the devaluation of the currency, the unprecedented increase food and non-food items prices, and the lifting of subsidies on these items are all reasons that affect the livelihoods of the Lebanese and the displaced Syrians, which make them in need of aid.
The analysis warned of dire consequences for the health and well-being of those vulnerable if the situation is not addressed urgently.
