An earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale struck on Sunday on the coast of the Kuril Islands in the Far East of Russia.
The epicentre of the earthquake occurred 102 km southwest of Golovino village, at a depth of 63 km, the Unified Geophysical Authority of the Russian Academy of Sciences stated.
There have been no reports of material or human damage as a result of the earthquake.
Earthquakes regularly strike different parts of the regions located on the Pacific belt, including the Kuril Islands, due to their presence in areas where many tectonic plates meet, which cause frequent volcanic and seismic activity.
