Bangladesh MHM School and College organised special functions to mark International Mother Language Day and the Martyrs' Day.
Ambassador and school chairman Md Nazrul Islam, the chief guest, hoisted the national flag at half-mast as a tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of their mother tongue in 1952. In his welcome address, school director retired Lt Cdr Md Anwar Khurshid urged the gathering to contribute to the enrichment of the Bangla language. The ambassador focused on the incidents that led to the language movement and remembered the contribution of the great leader Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the supreme sacrifice of the people of Bangladesh.
“It is the language movement of 1952 which sowed the seed of independence of our country and taught us to revolt against injustice,” said the chief guest. Wall magazines, showcasing the history of the language movement and prepared by the students were unveiled. Various competitions were held.
