HE the Minister of Labour Dr Ali bin Saeed bin Smaikh al-Marri stressed Qatar's firm stance in support of the Palestinian people until they regain all their legitimate rights, out of Qatar's belief in their just cause and in fulfillment of its moral responsibility that requires standing by justice and supporting the oppressed.
He reiterated Qatar's strong condemnation and denunciation of the Israeli occupation forces storming of the city of Nablus in the West Bank, which is an extension of the occupation's continuous and systematic crimes against the Palestinian people and its flagrant violation of the resolutions of international legitimacy by committing horrific crimes against the fraternal Palestinian people.
This came during HE the Minister's speech during the partners' meeting to support the implementation of the Palestinian National Employment Strategy in the presence of Arab labour ministers and representatives of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and Arab Labour Organization (ALO).
The meeting, organised by the Palestinian Ministry of Labour, ILO, ALO, and the German government, aims to find effective mechanisms to create job opportunities for Palestinian men and women during the coming years. HE the Minister stressed the need to support the implementation of the Palestinian National Employment Strategy during this time, in which the Palestinian people are suffering difficult conditions as a result of the occupation's arbitrary measures, in addition to the negative impacts of Covid-19 pandemic impacts on various life aspects.
He indicated that Qatar is well aware of the sufferings of the fraternal Palestinians from the unjust decisions and measures made by the occupation over the past 70 years, and said that these measures led to the deterioration of economic, humanitarian, and social conditions, which constitutes a challenge for job seekers to have decent jobs and a positive work environment. He stressed that the occupation's retaliatory and arbitrary measures aim to perpetuate the fragile conditions experienced by Palestinian workers, whether in the West Bank or in the besieged Gaza Strip for more than 15 years. He indicated that in light of these harsh conditions, the Covid-19 pandemic posed more challenges and pressure on the work environment in Palestine.
HE the Minister noted that the harsh conditions experienced by Palestinian workers require continuous pressure on the occupation to fulfill its obligations according to international law. He pointed out the need to coordinate the unified efforts of the Arab group before international organizations, which should contribute to providing the needed support to overcome the challenges faced by the labour market in Palestine.
HE al-Marri reiterated that the Palestinian cause shall remain the central cause of the Arab and Islamic nation and all the honourable people around the world and that Qatar shall spare no effort in working to alleviate the hardships faced by the Palestinian people, intensify the efforts in the field of providing decent work, and support education, especially vocational training field.
He said that Qatar always seeks to support the brothers in Palestine as there were some initiatives to provide financial support to the Palestinian Fund for Employment and Social Protection in co-ordination with the ILO, stressing the need for donor countries to continue their support to the Palestinian Authority to face the ongoing challenges including labour and education.
At the end of his speech, he extended his thanks to the ALO and ILO for organising these meetings that allow everyone to exchange ideas and make use of their experiences. The Palestinian government aims through the National Employment Strategy (2021-2025) to promote work opportunities, increase women and youth participation in the labour market, enhance labour market governance, develop active programs and policies for the labour market, match education with skills and labour market needs, strengthen private sector's resistance and productivity, and provide decent job opportunities for job seekers.
