A delegation from Qatar Charity (QC) participated in the 3rd Riyadh International Humanitarian Forum (RIHF), organised by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief) in partnership with the United Nations and its humanitarian organisations.
The two-day event was attended by humanitarian leaders, donors, practitioners, researchers, and others from the different countries of the world.
The QC delegation was headed by chief executive Yousuf bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, and comprised Nawaf al-Hammadi (the chief executive’s assistant for the international operations and programmes sector), Ahmed al-Rumaihi (director of the External Affairs Office), and Kalid Aunallah (director of the Follow-up Department).
The RIHF is aimed at strengthening dialogue and communication between leaders, donors, practitioners, and researchers to exchange experiences, ideas, and best practices for the development of humanitarian work, improve the Humanitarian, Development and Peace Nexus (HDPN) to ensure sustainable development, and adapt technology and digital transformation to serve humanitarian work.
RIHF scientific sessions and accompanying events discussed topics related to the development of humanitarian needs and ways to respond to them, data collection and analysis to support humanitarian action, proactive action and strengthening resilience in local communities, and methods of achieving sustainable development goals by improving the HDPN.
Al-Rumaihi participated in a panel discussion on achieving SDGs (UN Sustainable Development Goals) through humanitarian, development, and peace nexus, which was held on the sideline of the forum and saw the participation of representatives of the World Health Organisation (WHO), the World Food Programme (WFP), and the UN Development Programme (UNDP).
He touched upon the importance of strengthening co-ordination among policymakers, relevant NGOs, research institutes, and other relevant actors for a more effective, efficient, and sustainable approach that includes immediate response, development, and peace efforts.
Al-Rumaihi noted the need to explore new approaches and solutions to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of humanitarian, development and peace programming given the nature of crises that are increasingly more protracted and complex.
On the sidelines of the RIHF, QC chief executive al-Kuwari held meetings with many humanitarian leaders from various organisations to discuss co-operation.
He also met KSrelief supervisor general Abdullah A al-Rabeeah to discuss and strengthen strategic co-operation between the organisations.
Al-Kuwari also held a meeting with International Organisation for Migration (IOM) director-general Antonio Vitorino to discuss the long-standing partnership between the organisations.
