US Republican Senator Roger Marshall has lauded Qatar’s efforts in optimising its investments of oil and gas resources in the country during a meeting hosted yesterday by the Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA).
He stressed that Doha has become similar to major capitals, saying “the matter is clear and obvious when visiting Qatar.” The senator underscored efforts by the US government to develop robust trade ties with Qatar, which is home to more than 120 US companies.
US exports to Qatar have increased significantly in recent years, emphasised Marshall, who was received by QBA Chairman HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani; board member Saud al-Mana; members Khaled al-Mannai and Maqbool Habib Khalfan, as well as QBA deputy general manager Sarah Abdullah.
At the beginning of the meeting, Sheikh Faisal underscored the strength of US-Qatar bilateral relations, which witnessed recently significant growth in trade volume and mutual investments.
He stressed that the Qatari private sector has various investments in the US, in addition to “great partnerships” between QBA members and many American companies in various commercial sectors in Qatar.
Sheikh Faisal emphasised that the Qatari business community and Qatari companies have become highly competitive and experienced, and are seeking to explore further important investment opportunities that respond to the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
They also aim to maximise the great potential in the Qatari market, said Sheikh Faisal, who pointed out that “Doha can be a gateway for US investments in the region.”
Marshall highlighted the importance of the positive relations between Doha and Washington, which extend for more than 50 years, as the two sides seek to strengthen bilateral relations in the future, supported by the role of the US as the largest direct foreign investor in Qatar and the largest single source of its imports.
At the end of the meeting, Marshall invited Sheikh Faisal and QBA members to visit the US and explore new investment opportunities. “I will work to facilitate procedures and provide the best ways for the success of the visit,” Sheikh Faisal said.
