The Doha-based humanitarian funds of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) participated in relief efforts in Turkiye and Syria, in support of those affected by the earthquake, which struck the two countries on February 6, leaving thousands dead and wounded and displacing millions.
The assistance provided by the funds includes emergency shelter, food and medical supplies in the most affected areas in Turkiye, such as Kilis, Gaziantep, Hatay, Reyhanli and Iskenderun, as well as the Syrian border areas, which were greatly affected by the earthquake.
During his visit to the affected areas, HE the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Humanitarian Funds Sheikh Dr. Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al-Thani affirmed that the importance of this visit lies in reflecting the suffering of the affected people to the Arab and Islamic worlds, and for the funds to contribute to supporting the brothers in Turkiye and Syria.
He pointed to the extent of the destruction left by the earthquake in southern Turkiye and northern Syria, adding that the destruction is enormous and cannot be described. He affirmed that the humanitarian funds seek to provide all forms of support and assistance to those needy in the affected areas.
He valued the efforts of the State of Qatar to support those affected by the earthquake, praising, in this context, its urgent and immediate intervention and its rapid response to this disaster. He also praised the efforts of many Arab and Islamic countries in this regard.
HE Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani praised Qatar's sponsorship of OIC humanitarian funds and its unlimited support for the humanitarian programs it implements in the countries that fall under the umbrella of the funds.
He added that the State of Qatar, which hosts the headquarters of the humanitarian funds, has had the greatest credit for carrying out the role entrusted to it to the fullest, noting that the State of Qatar, under its wise leadership, is one of the leading countries in the field of regional and international humanitarian work. It enjoys a prominent position in this aspect thanks to its humanitarian and charitable institutions.
Humanitarian funds seek to implement their development and relief projects through international strategic partnerships to serve humanitarian work, as it held several international strategic partnerships during the last period.
