Indian athlete Shakeer Cheerayi has set a new record for the fastest crossing of Qatar on foot (male) while undertaking a solo run from the Abu Samra border in the south to Al Ruwais in the north.
The Indian ultra-marathon athlete completed the run in 30 hours and 34 minutes, according to a statement from the organisers of the Wellness Happiness Run.
To formally recognise the new achievement, the documentation of the Wellness Happiness Run will be submitted to the Guinness World Records.
Once verified, this will be Cheerayi’s first Guinness World Records title.
He started from Bu Samra border at 6am on February 17 and finished at Al Ruwais Corniche at 12.54pm on February 18, covering 192km.
The 45-year-old broke the existing record of 34 hours and 19 minutes, set by Tunisian athlete Sadok Kochbati on February 4 last year.
Cheerayi, a famous long-distance runner in Qatar, has participated in major international events in the country.
The event was organised by Wellness Challengers and officially sponsored by City Exchange.
City Exchange head of operation Shanib Shamsudheen delivered the congratulatory speech at Al Ruwais Corniche.
