Qatar’s diplomatic, consular and representative missions abroad recently organised sporting activities on the occasion of the 12th National Sport Day (NSD), held under the slogan 'The Choice is Yours'.
In Riyadh, Qatar’s embassy to Saudi Arabia organised a sports event with the participation of ambassador Bandar bin Mohamed al-Attiyah and the embassy staff, in addition to a number of Qatari employees of the General Secretariat of the GCC States.
The activities included a football match and a walking competition.
Al-Attiyah said in a speech on this occasion that since 2012, Qatar has devoted the second Tuesday of February every year as a day for sports, to raise awareness of its importance in life, promote human and moral values, and encourage citizens and residents to practice it on an ongoing basis.
The envoy noted Qatar’s success in organising the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and stressed the country’s readiness to organise the next Asian Football Championship.
In Brasilia, Qatar’s embassy to Brazil organised a sports event with the participation of ambassador Ahmed bin Ibrahim al-Abdullah and the embassy staff.
In Addis Ababa, Qatar’s embassy to Ethiopia held a sports event attended by Qatar’s representative to the African Union (AU), Hamad Mohamed al-Dosari, diplomatic staff and local employees.
In Lisbon, Qatar’s embassy to Portugal conducted a sports event with the participation of ambassador Saad bin Ali al-Muhannadi, diplomats, local staff and students on scholarship in Portugal.
In Mexico City, Qatar’s embassy to Mexico organised a sports event attended by ambassador Mohamed bin Jassim al-Kuwari, the diplomatic staff, local employees and friends of the embassy, which included a football match.
In Panama, Qatar’s embassy to Panama held a sports event with the participation of ambassador Ahmed bin Mohamed al-Dehaimi, the diplomatic staff and local employees.
In Dushanbe, Qatar’s embassy to the Tajikistan conducted a sports event that saw the participation of ambassador Mubarak bin Abdulrahman al-Nasr, the diplomatic staff and local employees, which included competitions in the bowling alley.
In Jakarta, Qatar’s embassy to Indonesia organised an event at the National Stadium, with the participation of the former Indonesian vice-president Mohamed Jusuf Kalla, a number of officials, ambassadors, diplomatic staff, embassy staff and employees of Qatari institutions in Indonesia, which included activities including walking, football, table tennis, and badminton.
In a speech on this occasion, ambassador Fawzia bint Idris Salman al-Sulaiti affirmed the keenness of the state of Qatar to uphold the importance of sport and its moral and human values, and reviewed Qatar’s achievements in the field of sports.
In Lima, Qatar’s embassy to Peru held an event, with the participation of ambassador Jabor bin Abdullah al-Suwaidi, Third Secretary Abdullah al-Tamimi, and the local staff, that included outdoor sports activities like jogging, badminton, and a football match.
In Milan, Italy, Qatar's Consulate General held an event in co-operation with the Bocconi Sports Centre of Bocconi University, which included competitions in football, volleyball and tennis.
