The Qatari inventors participating in the 13th International Invention Fair in the Middle East (IIFME) in Kuwait won the Gulf Cooperation Council Patent Office GCCPO Award and other nine various medals, including a gold medal with honours, four gold medals, one silver, and three bronze.
The Qatari delegation of inventors won these medals amid competition between around 200 inventions from more than 40 Arab and foreign countries. The Qatari invention of the Powered Air Purifying Respirator (PAPR) obtained third place in the Gulf Cooperation Council Patent Office GCCPO Award and won the gold medal with honours.
The following inventions won gold medals: A smart system for teaching prayer for the Qatari innovator Abdulrahman Saleh Khamis, a system for measuring blood glucose without a needle for the innovators Fatima Mohammed Ghanim Al Kaabi, Mizwen Mohammed Abdullah Al Shahwani, Noura Mahmoud Eid Al Bardini, and Dr Khalid Ahmad Abouelsoud. A device for detecting cancer by Dr Sumaya Ali Sultan Al-Maadeed and an automated system for cleaning solar panels using atmospheric humidity for young innovators Rashid Khalifa Al Jaham Al Kuwari and Abdulaziz Muhzam Al Sumaiti also won gold medals.
An athletic urinary catheter for the inventor Salem Abdullah Al Shahwani won the silver medal. Meanwhile, the following inventions won the bronze medal: A portable device for detecting moving objects and obstacles, using radar and a millimetre wave camera and the smart hat which is an assistive system for people with visual impairments, both by Dr Sumaya Ali Sultan Al-Maadeed, in addition to smart detective system for car accidents for inventor Mohammed Ali Al Mohannadi.
The State of Qatar was represented in the IIFME fair by several bodies interested in scientific research, including Qatar Scientific Club, Qatar University, and the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, in addition to the General Secretariat of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf.
Regarding the participation of the Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School for Boys students, the school Principal Mohammed Al Emadi said that the students' participation in the IIFME comes within the school's keenness to involve students in international forums and fairs to showcase their innovations among other innovators and inventors from all over the world.
