The activities of the 11th edition of Halal Qatar Festival, organised by the Cultural Village Foundation - Katara, will begin and continue until February 24 on the southern side of Katara.
The festival includes two events - Al Mazain and Al Mazad Auction - in addition to a variety of accompanying educational and entertainment activities. It comes as part of Katara's strategy to preserve all branches of the Qatari heritage and promote it in the hearts of young people, Qatar News Agency reports.
The festival also attracts sheep owners from within and outside Qatar, and enables them to benefit from the exchange of experiences and diversity in terms of supply and demand with regard to different halal types.
The president of the festival's organising committee, Salman al-Nuaimi, said this edition is distinguished by the addition of a new award allocated to each category separately.
He said this will be called the 'Golden Barn' award, which will be given to barns that accumulate the highest points in the rounds they take part in.
"In this festival, we pay attention to all relevant factors and components, be it the owners of livestock, introducing the beauty of the sheep and goats taking part, the advantages and distinctive features of their breeds, and the competitions among herd owners, to encourage the enhancement of livestock production in the country," al-Nuaimi said.
He noted that the festival has key cultural and educational aspects that help introduce the public and, in particular, the younger generation to an integral part of the Qatari heritage and traditions.
"This year, we have started resuming the accompanying activities of the festival as well as school trips to the venue, which were put on hold in the previous edition due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Besides, the pavilions for productive families will be resumed as well," he added.
