Horse race competitions of HH the Amir Sword Festival 2023 will begin Thursday at the Al Rayyan racecourse.
Organised by Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club (QREC), the three-day festival will feature the first horse race in the festival and the 32nd in the 2022-23 season, which comprises eight runs, with a purse of $100,000 each.
The last race will be allocated for the championship for purebred hybrid horses (Class 2) over a distance of 1,700m.
Meanwhile, the three-day 13th edition of HH the Amir's Sword Showjumping and Dressage Championship will kick off Thursday at Qatar Equestrian Federation (QEF)'s main racecourse.
The competitions will start with two rounds of dressage and then continue tomorrow with three showjumping rounds: the small tour at a height of 100-120cm, followed by the medium tour at 120-135cm, and then the grand tour at a height of 135-145cm.
On Saturday, the final day of competitions will start with the small tour at a height of 100-120cm, then the second grand tour for the golden sword from two rounds at a height of 135-145cm, followed by the medium tour and concluding with two rounds for future riders.
HH the Amir's Sword Showjumping and Dressage Championship is the most prominent annual event in the calendar of the QEF for 12 years, and it comes in conjunction with HH the Amir's Festival for horse racing and endurance.
Registration for participating in the championship closed Wednesday, and it is expected to witness strong competition over three consecutive days in the showjumping, dressage and future riders competitions, which are being arbitrated according to the regulations of the International Federation for Equestrian Sports.
