The Ministry of Public Health, Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, and Naufar Center organised a march Tuesday to mark the National Sport Day (NSD), with the participation of several leading figures and employees of the health sector, at Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City.
Many sports, entertainment, and awareness activities were held for employees and their families. HE the Minister of Public Health Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari stressed the great importance of the NSD in promoting community awareness of sports and its role in improving health, which demonstrates the keen interest of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, in the health and well-being of the population.
HE Dr al-Kuwari pointed out that the theme of this year's NSD, 'The Choice is Yours' embodies the importance of involving community members in maintaining their health by adopting healthy lifestyles and exercising as a daily habit. "This year's Sport Day focus on the sustainable impact of sport on human life, especially that of the elderly, contributes to empowering them with the knowledge necessary to manage and improve their physical and mental health for a long and active life, which supports the MoPH’s health strategies and programmes aiming at achieving a healthy future for the population.
"The collaborative efforts of all entities and society in celebrating the Sport Day, for over a decade, have effectively contributed to intensifying awareness of the importance of exercising among members of society for a long healthy life.
"What characterises the National Sport Day 2023 is that it comes after all municipalities in Qatar had received the title of healthy cities from the World Health Organisation, in a world first. Healthy cities provide sustainable and healthier options for members of the community, and encourage them to adopt healthy lifestyles, including sports and physical activities in a healthy environment, in line with Qatar National Vision 2030," HE the Minister added.
At the NSD celebrations, awareness was promoted about ways to reduce the health risks associated with a sedentary lifestyle, such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity, and cancer, as part of the 'Employees Wellbeing and Wellness Program', an initiative of human resources departments in the public health sector.
The MoPH and the Ministry of Sports and Youth also participated in organising activities for the elderly in Aspire Park, with the aim of promoting healthy lifestyles through a variety of innovative activities.
The MoPH has urged community members to exercise and engage in physical activities as a daily routine, which contributes to improving the quality of life, and enhances their physical and psychological health.
