The marathon was organised by the QC Centre for Community Development in Al Khor at Al Rami Sport Club in Lusail.
Three groups of participants – children, adolescents, and youth – took part in the 1km, 2.5km, and 5km race.
The schools and initiatives that participated in the marathon included Abdullah bin Ali Al-Misnad Secondary School for Boys, Al-Khor Model School for Boys, and the “Hour and Hour” initiative.
Al-Hammadi honoured the first three winners of each category with prizes, in addition to honouring all the participants and partners.
QC Local Projects Department head Fareed Khaleel al-Siddieqy described the marathon as part of the QC's keenness to participate in national events, emphasise the importance of sports in building a healthy society, and contribute to promote the culture of sports.
Qatar Women's Sport Committee executive director Amna al-Qasimi praised the co-operation with the QC in organising the marathon and implementing various other programmes, including the “Big Winner” programme for primary school students.
“At a time which makes us highly dependent on technology and make us chained to our desks and gadgets, sports pulls us back to activities,” said Dr Divya Geeta, an orthopaedic surgeon at Naseem Al-Rabeeh Medical Centre.
She also emphasised the importance of regular exercise, and appreciated the QC's efforts in implementing awareness programmes and sports activities such as walking and marathons.
"We do not overlook the role of Qatar Charity in the field of sports,” said the “Be_fit180o” team coach Noura al-Thawadi, indicating that the QC provided the opportunity to participate in sports programmes that benefit community.
She noted that the team contributed to supporting the marathon and preparing children for the event.
The founder of the “Hour and Hour” initiative, Tamani al-Yafei, said that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body, underscoring the importance of maintaining a healthy body through proper nutrition and appropriate exercise.
