Qatar Charity's (QC) delegations, currently in Turkiye, continue to distribute aid to the Syria-Turkiye earthquake victims, visit the affected, and assess their needs in many disaster-hit areas, a statement said Sunday.
The delegations carrying out these relief missions included CEO Yousuf bin Ahmed al-Kuwari, Media Department director Saoud Ali al-Maadeed, QC Turkiye Office general supervisor Mushaal AlHajeri and many employees.
Al-Kuwari participated in distributing ready-to-eat food packages to internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Turkiye’s Hatay. He inspected the charity kitchens and many affected areas, in addition to visiting the affected in IDPs camps.
“What we are seeing is painful. We must now stand with the affected. During my over 10-year humanitarian career, I have never seen such destruction in my life,” the QC CEO said.
QC’s field teams in Turkiye continue to distribute more than 30,000 hot meals in Kilis, Gaziantep, Hatay, Reyhanlı, and İskenderun. Each of QC’s two bakeries in Reyhanli and Kilis produces 10,500 bundles of bread per day, which are distributed to the affected in all areas of Hatay. In addition, 500 tents are being prepared to be distributed to the affected in Gaziantep and within Syria.
QC has started operating eight health centres within Syria for a period of 12 months, at an estimated cost of more than QR7mn. QC's bakery, which operates at its maximum capacity, also produces more than 5,000 bundles of bread daily, in addition to 2,500 bundles of bread allocated to the affected in the shelters in Jindires, which houses 400 families.
QC has also supported kitchens with municipalities in Gaziantep and Şanlıurfa, where 22 metric tonnes of food items were provided to prepare 45,000 ready-to-eat meals to be distributed to the affected in Sanliurfa, in addition to providing 34.4 metric tonnes of food items to prepare ready-to-eat meals for the affected in Gaziantep.
The relief aid airlifted and delivered to the Turkiye Disaster Management Authority (AFAD), consisted of 15.4 metric tonnes of blankets (nearly 3,846 blankets), and 30 metric tonnes of food items.
QC has also set up a field camp to house orphans and their families, numbering 100, in Hayati Harran, south of Şanlıurfa.
The field teams of QC, since the disaster occurred, have been communicating with the sponsored to ensure their safety, assess all their needs and meet them as soon as possible.
QC is currently studying relief projects, which will include distributing personal hygiene kits, operating municipal kitchens, and providing mobile kitchens, two each in Turkiye and within Syria, which will distribute 6,000 meals per day, in addition to providing hospitals with fuel and implementing other projects.
