The public healthcare sector is observing International Epilepsy Day, today, on February 9 to highlight the neurological disease which affects more than 50 million people around the world, according to the World Health Organization.
Epilepsy affects almost every aspect of the life of the person diagnosed with the condition. For many people living with epilepsy, the stigma attached to the condition is often more difficult to deal with than the disease itself. Every fourth case of epilepsy could be prevented by addressing and minimizing risk factors, such as stroke, brain infections, birth injuries, and head trauma.
If you feel like you had a seizure but you are not sure, take referral from your primary health centre or from a private hospital to see a specialist at Hamad General Hospital's Neurology Department.
