Turkish Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu confirmed that his country is working to open two border crossings with Syria to facilitate the delivery of international aid to it.
Cavusoglu said in a press conference Wednesday night, that the roads in Syria were also damaged due to the earthquake that struck the north of the country on Monday morning, adding that Turkey is providing the necessary support to deliver aid sent from other countries to those affected by the earthquake in Syria.
The Turkish Foreign Affairs Minister stated that the Gilo Gozo crossing in Hatay State, opposite the Syrian Bab al-Hawa, is open within the framework of the UN mandate for the transfer of aid to Syria.
"There are some difficulties in terms of Turkeys and the international community's aid reaching Syria," the foreign minister said. "For this reason, efforts are being made to open two more border gates."
He continued that this is a humanitarian issue, not a political one.
Turkish Foreign Affairs Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu indicated that Turkey opens its airspace when there is a request for the delivery of aid coming to Syria or for flights to Aleppo International Airport.
A devastating earthquake measuring 7.7 magnitude struck southern Turkey and northern Syria at dawn on Monday, followed hours later by another 7.6-magnitude earthquake, in addition to hundreds of violent aftershocks, leaving significant loss of life and property in the two countries.
