The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed all major works of the bicycle path and walkway at Umm Bishr, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported.
The 5km path extends from Saud bin Abdulrahman signal on the new Al Wakra Road to the Madinatna area of Barwa Real Estate up to the Doha Expressway walkway. This is constructed as part of the plan of the Supervisory Committee for Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar to set up a connected network of bicycle paths in Qatar.
The walkway has hundreds of local trees planted. Solar-powered lamps have also been installed. The establishment of the walkway, according to the latest international standards, is intended to motivate citizens and residents to practice sports and as part of the efforts by the Supervisory Committee to create a sustainable environment through initiatives which include building central public parks, providing special paths for pedestrians and bicycles, and providing areas with amenities.
