Qatar Charity (QC) announced Monday that its field teams would start distributing urgent relief aid to those affected by the earthquake that struck southern Turkey and Syria, in conjunction with the launch of its urgent relief campaign 'Relief the earthquake victims - Turkey and Syria'.
In response to urgent humanitarian needs, 27,000 hot meals, at a value of QR 400,000, were distributed equally to those affected by the earthquake, the QC said in a statement.
A convoy moved from Doha towards the affected areas containing 4 trucks, including medical supplies, first aid, clothes, dates and foodstuffs with a total value of more than QR 500,000, the statement added, indicating that preparations are underway to implement 30 relief convoys that include food and non-food items at a value of QR 5.1 million, bringing the total aid in the first phase to more than QR 6 million.
Work is also underway to prepare a plan estimated at QR 21.9 million, which includes an urgent response at a value of QR7.3 million, and early recovery and reconstruction projects estimated at QR 14.6 million, the statement read.
The displaced inside Syria and those affected by the earthquake in Turkey are suffering from a human tragedy, as hundreds of those affected and wounded are in urgent need of treatment and medicine, and hundreds of families became without shelter or food, especially since the earthquake coincided with low temperatures and snowfall, which compounds the sufferings of those affected by the earthquake, the statement added.
