The 38th Annual Sports Meet of Ideal Indian School concluded recently with great fanfare and a fascinating performance by 1,200 students. Earlier, some 3,000 students took part in the preliminary heats of various track and field events in sub-junior, junior, senior and super senior categories.
In the grand finale, the chief guest Nada Mohamed Wafa, Olympian and head of Qatar Olympic Solidarity Unit and secretary-general of Athletes Commission declared the meet open after taking salute of the marching athletes and hoisting the school flag. The guest of honour was Wouley De Bie Oly, Olympian and technical director of Water Polo & Venues and Competition manager, Qatar Olympic Committee. They were presented a guard of honour by the four houses of the school. Principal Shaik Shamim Saheb and the heads of all sections were present.
A colourful mass drill by the Junior Section, a Yoga display by the students of the Girls’ Section and a martial arts display by the Boys' Sections enthralled the spectators. Students who brought laurels in national and international sports meets were honoured during the occasion.
House contingents of boys were led by head boy Ibrahim Ahmad and assistant head boy Ahmed Mohd Faisal. Head girl Hanin Shamsheer and assistant head girl Mary Stenicka led the girls’contingents. Girls' Section sports secretary Aseel Mohamedosman welcomed the gathering and Boys' Section sports secretary Fahad Abdullah proposed a vote of thanks. Junior Section vice principal Azam Khan and Physical Education head Nowfal V M co-ordinated the programme.
