A sidra fruit, honey and local vegetables festival will conclude tomorrow (Saturday) at Al Rayyan Park. The event is being held under the motto 'the production of our farms', by the Ministry of Municipality's Agriculture Affairs Department in co-operation with Al Rayyan Municipality. A number of Qatari farms are participating in the festival which is open to the public from 4pm to 9pm. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony on Wednesday, Al Rayyan Municipality director Jabir Hassan al-Jabir, said that this is the first time such a festival is being held in a public garden or parks. Usually, festivals take place at commercial complexes or agricultural yards. Al Rayyan Park was selected for the event due to its location, popularity and the considerable population density in the area, he added. Agriculture Affairs Department director Yousef al-Khelaifi said the festival was organised to diversify the marketing options for the local farm owners while attracting more people to the public parks. The festival promotes healthy eating habits as there are four organic farms participating, he noted. It is envisaged to expand the initiative to other parks too after studying the outcome of this festival, al-Khelaifi added.
