HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani met with Under Secretary of the US State Department for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland, who is currently visiting the country. Both sides discussed the bilateral co-operation relations between the two countries, and ways to support and develop them, especially in the energy sector, in addition to the latest regional and international developments, most notably the security of the region, the Palestinian issue, the latest developments in Afghanistan, and the developments of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis.
The two sides stressed the importance of creating a political atmosphere for the Palestinian cause, returning to meaningful negotiations that achieve a two-state solution in accordance with the 1967 borders, and stopping settlement activities in the occupied territories. HE Sheikh Mohamed reiterated Qatar's stance in support of the Hashemite Custodianship of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. For her part, the under secretary of the US State Department expressed her country's appreciation to Qatar for its efforts to enhance international peace and security.
