ExxonMobil Qatar and Qatar Tennis Federation (QTF) have launched a series of promotional activities at a number of locations in Doha to mark the launch of the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2023 taking place at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex on February 20 to 25.

The activities promote the tournament’s sustainability campaign theme for 2023 and can be found at stands in Villaggio, Doha Festival City and in Souq Waqif from February 5. They include a unique virtual reality game that gives participants an opportunity to capture carbon dioxide for storage and help fight climate change; a game of shoot the PET (polyethylene terephthalate) fully recyclable bottles into a hoop; and a game of choose your sustainability banner message to win fun prizes.

Saleh al-Mana, Vice President and Director of Government and Public Affairs for ExxonMobil Qatar; Tareq Zainal, Secretary General of QTF; and Karim Alami, Tournament Director launched the activities at Doha Festival City earlier this week.

“We are very pleased to announce the start of promotional activities for the Qatar ExxonMobil Open 2023 with our partner the Qatar Tennis Federation,” said Dominic Genetti, President and General Manager for ExxonMobil Qatar. “The activities are fun, engaging and open to the public – they’ll promote the tournament and its sustainability theme and also give people a taste of what’s to come in February.”

“Qatar has positioned itself as a top host of major sporting events following the success of the World Cup, and we plan to continue in the same spirit of sporting excellence that has become synonymous with Qatar. We look forward to another great year of remarkable tennis in Doha,” he added.

Sustainability is at the core of our tournament, and we believe that the protection of the environment is everyone’s responsibility, with sport, especially tennis, playing a prominent role in promoting it. We believe our synergy with ExxonMobil Qatar will further increase awareness towards a more sustainable society,”

Qatar ExxonMobil Open has always been at the forefront of activities that promote sustainability and responsible energy use, with ExxonMobil Qatar being a major champion of the cause.”

ExxonMobil Qatar has also planned three competitions for its social media followers on Twitter and Instagram. One of the competitions is a trivia one and will run until February 19, giving followers the chance to win exciting prizes by posting their answers.

The second is a photo competition that requires participants to take a photo trying out sustainability themed activities at the activations stands, post it using the hashtag #BeTheChange, and tag exxonmobil_qatar to enter a raffle for a valuable digital gift. The third and final competition is a Guess to Win one that will run from February 22-25.

The Qatar ExxonMobil Open will bring together some of the world’s top players to compete. Confirmed participants include Andy Murray, Alexander Zverev, Andrey Rublev and Daniil Medvedev.
