At least 15 people died, while dozens were injured as a result of a massive fire that erupted in an apartment complex in Joraphatak state's Dhanbad city, East of India.
Local media sources said Wednesday that the fire, which erupted in an apartment spread rapidly before the firefighting teams rescued residents trapped from the sixth and seventh floors of the complex.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren described the accident as "extremely heart-wrenching," adding "the district administration is working and treatment is being provided to the injured."
For his part, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deep anguish by the loss of lives in the Dhanbad fire, pointing out that the relatives of the victims and the injured will be compensated.
This accident comes several days after another fire has erupted in the same area, where five people died following a fire that erupted on Saturday inside a private clinic.
