Parliamentarian Jawad al-Bolani, a member of the security and defence committee in the Iraqi Parliament, affirmed that Qatar is a pioneer in the field of combating terrorism and has presented wonderful models of hosting and organising important global events and conferences in co-operation with the specialised offices of the United Nations and its brothers from the Arab countries and its friends from the region.
In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the sidelines of the activities of the parliamentary policy dialogue on border security in the context of counter-terrorism in Doha, al-Bolani said Qatar has given a pioneering and unique model in taking the lead in initiatives and events that enhance the capabilities of countries and activate their return to the UN community, to unite the world view to confront terrorism and extremism.
He pointed out that the United Nations and parliamentary unions can contribute to addressing issues of border security, stability of countries and in preventing the infiltration of terrorists, stressing the importance of these meetings since parliamentarians represent their people and care about their issues.
He reviewed the effects of terrorism and its repercussions on his country, pointing out that Iraq was subjected to a fierce attack but said the country has insisted on proving its existence as a state through its commitment to combating terrorism, and said Iraqis faced this with strength and patience.
He added that his country has signed memorandums of understanding with some Arab countries and has completed and ratified the Arab strategy to combat terrorism, and added that it is also engaged in the international strategy to combat terrorism. (QNA)
