Secretary-General of the Sheikh Hamad Award for Translation and International Understanding Dr Hassan al-Naama has stressed that the award represents Qatar's contribution to sponsor translation from Arabic into various international languages.
Addressing the closing ceremony of the eighth edition of the award, Dr al-Naama extended thanks to His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani for sponsoring the award.
He said the award's most important parts are the diversification in the areas of translation which covers various world languages, leading to various translated cultural and intellectual productions from many nations legacies and their languages, as well as those translated from other languages into Arabic.
Speaking on behalf of the Award's guests, Dr Baek Ha-Yoon (Lily), from South Korea, expressed appreciation with Qatar's role in supporting translation and strengthening the bonds of coexistence and international understanding, and called for paying attention to young translators, so that they can succeed the generation of pioneers in translation from different generations.
It was a pleasure that all the people of the world, especially the Korean people, got to know Qatar more during its hosting of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, she said. She added that all lovers of the Arabic language and translators from their languages into Arabic had a mixed feeling of pride and happiness for Qatar's model of economic development and its endeavours to spread international understanding not only through sports, but through culture and interest in translation through this award that has brought together translators from all across the world on a common basis — the love of the Arabic language.
