An earthquake measuring 4.4 magnitude on the Richter scale occurred off the coast of Hatay, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, in southern Turkey.
The Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) stated that the earthquake occurred last night at a depth of 18.35 km, 16 km from the coast of Yayladagi district in Hatay.
On January 25, a 5.4-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Mugla province in western Turkey.
Turkey is located on top of major seismic fault lines, making it subjected to frequent earthquakes. The most devastating earthquake was in 1999, killing nearly 18,000 people.
